Cornelius Joseph Casey, Jr.
January 15, 1930 - December 27, 2016
Cornelius Joseph “Joe” Casey Jr passed away Tuesday December 27, 2016 after an extended illness.
He was born January 15, 1930 in Savannah GA to Cornelius J. and Elizabeth Sherhouse Casey, Sr. Joe attended Benedictine Academy in Savannah and was a medic in the Army from 1950 to 1956. He retired from Savannah’s Blue Circle Cement Company in 1992 as the shipping director and moved to Jesup GA where he lived and enjoyed his grandkids and great grand until recently. Joe was a 4th Degree member of the Brunswick chapter of the Knights of Columbus and was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians holding many state and local offices throughout his years of service. He received the Gartland Bishop Award in 2003 from Bishop Kevin Boland in appreciation for his years of service to the Diocese of Savannah.
He is survived by his sisters Helen C. Sumoski of Macon, GA and Gloria C. Thomas of Jacksonville FL; his daughter Cynthia C. Stewart of Savannah, GA; granddaughters Casey Hanak of Brunswick GA and Emily Stewart of Jesup, GA; grandson Stephen G. Stewart of St. Simons Island GA and a great grandson Logan J. Oliver of Jesup, GA.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial to be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Jesup GA on Friday, December 30 at 10 a.m. Interment will be held on Saturday, December 31 at 1 p.m. at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah.
